RUN for the WILD

Earlier this year I entered Bronx Zoo's Run for the Wild T-shirt design contest.
My entry became a finalist! Sadly, my design was edited (the emperor penguin was cut out)
and I also did not win. But it was great to be up in the running.

Unicorns

Hey, I like unicorns!

I've done several pieces based on the novel The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle.

Celaeno
acrylic

The moment in The Last Unicorn before the harpy Celaeno is freed from her cage.

The Red Bull
watercolor

The unicorn fights back against the Red Bull,
while the other unicorns surface in the waves.

The Butterfly
watercolor

The unicorn listening to the verbose and lyrical butterfly.

Arachne
chalk pastel

The unicorn tells the spider she is free,
but she is too engrossed in spinning an illusory Milky Way web.

This is the sketch for the scratchboard finish.
It won an honorable mention in Conlan Press' 2010 Last Unicorn art contest.

Arachne
scratchboard, digital

This work won first place in Scene from the Book category
in Conlan Press' 2010 Last Unicorn art contest.
It appears in a gallery on The Last Unicorn Blu-Ray DVD.

The following two are illustrations from a story
titled The Reluctant Unicorn by Erin M. Schmidt
